A friend is thinking about buying a batwing touring bike so as a friend, and apparently an idiot, I let him take my bike for a short ride. He comes back about 15 mins later and parks the bike. About an hour later I went to leave and when I started the bike the idle speed was higher than normal. I didn't think much of it until I got home about 25 mins and 18 miles later. The idle was still high (14-1600 rpm). It was cool here today and the engine temp was 193. The whole fuel injection, ECM thing is new to me as my last bike was a 75 FXWG. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I can look at to try to resolve this issue?
I read some threads and did some searching on here and came across some threads on the EIMTS. I went out this evening and checked and I think he did something to change it as my cruise indicator was green and is now red. I tried resetting it from what I read on here with no success. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Resetting a high idle is fairly simple. For most years on TBW bikes, I believe turning the ignition on and off 5 times will reset it. You can probably google the procedure, elms has nothing to do with it.
That was caused from killing the engine with his hand on the throttle. Turn handlebar stop switch on, turn ignition switch on and let it cycle until the little red and engine lights turn off, about 5 seconds, turn ignition switch off, repeat 4 times.
Sorry. I forgot the important part. 2008 Electra Glide Ultra Classic.
Mine has done that twice I got the same bike.
What Schex mentions is exactly what happened both times on my 08 UC.
A friend did it once and I did it myself the second time.
