I have an 08 street glide a picked up about a year. It has the 4in round k&n filter on it. The bike is barley over 18k miles and im curious if I should just clean the air filter or just buy a new one.

Clean filter and inspect it. I've gotten over 100,000 miles on K&N filters in the past.

It is up to you, If you like K&N, clean it and re oil it.
For me I am not a fan. Cleaning and re oiling gets old fast.
I seen the dirt they let in on Diesel trucks. Wipe your finger on the inside of the pipes after the air filter on a Diesel truck and you will see.
Motorcycles dont normally see as much dust as trucks do, and the modifications on bikes are often ongoing so wear is not noticed as much.
You can run whatever you like but I always recommend OEM.

But I recommend a synthetic, dry-element filter. Some HD SE air filter kits use them, and there are a few aftermarket suppliers....
Like the K&N they are cleanable, but they don't require oiling and they filter more dirt than the K&N oiled, gauze filters...
I use several of the HD synthetic, washable filters on my bikes. I have one that is quite old and has been cleaned at least 5 times... still looks and works well...
I put the purchase date on my filters to keep track of them...

Yeah that is what it is all about, filtering air. I was unaware of these synthetic filters. I will check them out, thank you for this.
I will ask for this at my dealer.
