I cant believe Harley is still using a clutch cable on ANY model. Talk about being last to the party . . .

At the same time, once the clutch is fully engaged, futher retraction of the slave is superfluous. I do agree, the friction zone is pretty narrow and pretty close to the end of the travel. That's just the function of a hydro clutch. A larger master piston could widen the friction zone, but it'll always be near the end of the travel. I personally prefer cable clutch actuation, but I've never felt like the hydro on my HD is uncomfortable.

No complaints with my stock hydro clutch...I suppose it's whatever you get used to. Been riding mine for 8 yrs now so it's pretty "ingrained". IMHO it's easy to pull and work the friction zone.

I didn't really have a problem with mine (2020), but while in Sturgis I got the Rekluse slave cylinder installed. It's improved a lot - much easier clutch pull, wider engagement range, closer to grip, etc. Definitely a luxury purchase, not necessary for me, but I'm enjoying it.

Just ordered a Rekluse for my 2019. Going to swap exhaust during the off-season, so it's a good time to do it.

I had the Muller Clutch Slave in mine, and it made a huge difference.

I wasn't happy about the thought of going back to cable after getting used to the hydro, but I really prefer the feel of the cable. I am able to fine tune it to be where I want. Adjustments are easy and can be done before a trip of even during. It's not a big deal, and it's a lot easier to repair on the side on the road.

Maybe I'm just used to it but the hydraulic clutch on my Ultra feels exactly the same as the cable clutch on my Softail, I just don't give it any thought.

While we’re on the hydraulic clutch subject, I found out the hard way on my Sturgis trip last month how important having the brake fluid in the clutch master cylinder flushed every 2 years is. My clutch went away several times when the moisture that had accumulated in the brake fluid got hot and boiled. Not fun times.

i didn't care for how extended my fingers were when the clutch would engage, so i bought an oberon adjustable clutch lever. i was able to set it to where fully engaged was not so far out, so my fingers weren't having to stretch so much.
