Not sure if you ride year 'round where you are, but I do in NC. You could always try them in the cooler months if you like them. Then take 'em off in the summer.

They usually show up in the forum classifieds here or on Fleabay for cheaps. If you don't like them, then sell them.

They work well. Too well in some climates. I built a smaller set for my King Special and painted black. The factory set blocks a lot of air to the motor so in your area you'll notice a significant rise in engine heat. I built the smaller ones as an aesthetic alternative but they still noticeably raise the engine temp. The DK Customs 1-1/2 inch tank lift (front only) I did on my King and wifes Freewheeler helps but doesn't take it all away.

I put them on all my bikes, Road kings and my Street glide. It's the only solution I've found to keep my eggs from being scrambled at speed with a helmet.

Yea, I have them on my RK. Never take them off. They made a huge difference in wind buffeting. I got them off the swap pages for cheap. You might look there. At least it worked for me.

I've spoken to several people who have used the "fangs." The general consensus, some say they reduce the buffeting others say they don't really.

I have a set for my RK. Not crazy about the look but they work for me. I usually remove them during the hotter months.

I bought the HD deflectors for my RK and are well worth it. They really reduce the wind behind the windshield big time. I wear a half helmet and the only way to get above 50mph without my head feeling like it’s in a paint shaker is with the deflectors on. I take them off above regular 85*+, not for the motor but for more wind on me. I have an older 88 fuel injection and heat has never been an issue with them on or off.

Yes, work very well to resolve the buffeting that happens by the wind coming in from under the wind shield, but better yet, works as a steering damper to calm down the front end over 20mph as well. Before hangs, was white knuckling the grips at over 60mph to keep the bike on line, while now with the fangs, find that I will pull my hands from the bars at over 100mph without fear.

Yes, slightly more engine heats, since they are defecting the wind that would move around the engine now more outwards, but not so much extra heat that I will every pull them in the summer time. In the winter, with the extra touch of engine heat radiation, helps to keep my legs warmer as well.

As for engine heat, fuel is cooling, and by richening up the motor a touch, instead of that lean as hell condition that Harley has the bikes tuned to pass EPA standards to begin with, will find that engine does not need to run as hot as it comes OEM, plus will pick up HP and torque as well.

My engine seems to run cooler after I installed an external crank case breather.

Same problem with half helmets. The strap causes a lot of wind noise. Seems that the thinner the strap, less noise. Or you have to go with the very large style that normally comes with a neck curtain.

How do you know if you have a lot of wind coming from under the shield, when you can't see through your beard Mine is not that long, but after a ride behind the National Cycle HD police style, I need to brush my beard down.
