I was speaking with a dealer this morning that had the Python pipes for my bike in-stock. I was going to put them on today and he indicated that I could not do it without purchasing a race tuner. He indicated that if it screwed something up with the bike, Harley would not cover it under warranty. He told me that I could purchase and install a set of SE pipes without voiding the warranty.
Is this true? Can slip-ons mess something up on the bike? Back when I had my Softail Custom, you could not switch pipes until the break-in miles were out of the way. Is this still the case?
I put Python slip-ons on my completely stock 07 SG at about 300 miles. No problems. I put the Fullsac 2 into 2 kit on at about 2000 miles. Still no problems at 6500 miles. Stock air cleaner, NO downloads from the dealer and stock ECM. Runs great. Leaving for Colorado for the Four Corners Rallyon Tuesday, 8/28.
Abuddy of mine put them on his and no problems and he loves them, but he also added a filter and fule pack. This is what my dealer told me about exhaust and the rest.If something happens to the bike they are going to fix it ,but he did not know what the other dealers would do if you went to them with problems. The service manager said when a bike came in he did not look at what exhaust or mods had been done but if I had motor problems and a company service rep had to be called in he did not know what would be done.I took it it was up to me to gamble on add ons .
Any other thoughts? Should I just wait for the tuner? The only thing I am changing at the moment is the pipes. Filter will wait until tuner becomes available.

The problem is the 02 sensors can't adjust as much as needed with a very free flowing exhaust so a tuning device is needed to get it right. The 08 has no options at the moment due to its new ecm, so waiting for the sert is the best thing to do unless you go with the SE performance street slipons, which are not as loud but do sound very good and fall under the range of adjustment the 02s can handle.
