Default Front Calipers

Ok, it looks like a simple job but I must be missing something.

I am trying to remove the front calipers from my 2006 Road King. I have the 2 mounting bolts out but there is not enough slack in the brake lines to drop the caliper low enough to clear the fender.

I removed the screw holding the brake line junction thinking that would be enough but sill no go.

Do I need to remove the axle and drop the wheel out? I must be missing a trick.

Thanks

Yes. Drop the wheel enough to get clearance between the rim and fender....[8D]

My calipers WILL NOT come off unlessI drop the wheel on my Bagger. Pulling the pads allows some wiggle room and allows them to come off on my Softail (Bagger lowers for dual discs).

For stock brakes on stock wheels, there is no need to drop the wheel. (Dropping the wheel is a great way to screw up and scratch a rim.)

You should be able to raise the caliper up to where it is just about touching the fender and get it off. If it won't come off, your fender may need to be loosened and readjusted just a smidge. You can loosen the bolts, lift up on the rear of the fender and retighten. Of course, you gotta pull the wheel to do it.

Thanks to all. Sounds like I just drop the wheel and then then look at the fender alignment.

It just should not be this hard.

Drop the wheel

Easy enough to get them changed

I've done it several times this way, never a problem. Never had to drop the wheel. That'd be a PITA.[sm=icon_rtfm.gif]
