Well I'm not really that smart but all you need to do is check out the video Harley released showing the rider demonstrating how they work. And there doing it on wet pavement. A wheel lockup is a wheel lockup be it on wet or dry asphalt. It just locksup easier on the wet and thats where abs is the best. It's no different than abs on a car on snow. Without abs the wheels lock and you lose steering with abs you can still steer because the wheel don't lock up. Now if you don't believe me all I can say is I tried

I dont know that I would like the control of stoppig taken out of my hands/feet. I understand the theory af how it is supposed to work but I would rather know I was in control. That said I have a 07 RG with 600 miles so far and I went to wipe off the right exhaust pipe and it was completely loose. Not sure if I want those guys building my ABS

One other thing I think to say I bought this bike for its technology is just ridiculous. I bought it because I got to roundto lay over on crotch rockets anymore. This bike is for comfort. With today's idiots on the road theonly saftey you have is your own cauation, awareness, and common sense.
Yesterday I had some young girl talking on the phone eating a sandwich and looking through a practically shattered windshiled tailgating me so close I could see her pink nail polish. You gotta get as far away from those people as possible, all the ABS gizmos and anything else you can think of cant help you any more than being observent and careful.

Damn, heard all this discussion before on the BMW forums many years ago!! For those that absolutely have to have abs and now feel that they can't safely stop a bike without it, is this your first Harley? If not, your kidding yourself. Why didn't you buy a Goldwing or Beemer in lieu of a Harley years ago when abs was available on non Harley's? It's an enhancment no more or less. That said, I like the feature, but it's not a show stopper if it's not offered on a bike I want to ride!!

Wow after I re-read the post, it's not worth submission(just hot air)...oh well I'll post it anyway!

Anyone that thinks they can out brake and ABS equiped bike on wet pavement is just wrong. I just purchased an 07 FLHR and wish ABS was an opion in 07.

I will however say this. I have been riding off and on for the last 30 years, this RK is my forth motorcycle and second RK. In all my years of riding I have never locked up the frontwheel on dry pavement. The rear wheel, well that is a different story.

In the rain I just take it easy, real easy. The good news is that it almost never rains here inSoCal.

If it saves a life for some hot headed guy who thinks ABS is a catch all and he can ride faster as a result...then it is worth it!

I found your comment strange.

Well for those who think they have the skill and reflexes to break better without ABS you are certainly entitled to your opinion. There is no doubt in my mind that I do not have the ability to apply maximum braking force on any surface condition with out ABS. Granted while this proven technology plain and simple, it does not replace the basic fundamentals proper motorcycle handling. I for one am extremely excited about this option and it is the biggest factor in my decision to purchase a 08 Ultra.
