Default No Speedo

Went on a ride today and my speedometer went to zero. When that happened, cruise control went out along with the odometer and compensated speed volume. Stayed out most of the trip and would come and go.

A little research leans me toward the speed sensor unless someone leads me in another direction.

Same thing just happened to my wife’s bike, but hers turned out to be the gauge. There are was to test the speed sensor but I would guess that the sensor is bad or going bad. Did your turn signals self cancel like normal?

I never noticed if they did or not. What will that tell me? Did your wife’s bike do all the other things mine did?

Same thing happened to my 23 SG ST. It was ABS sensor that died with only 240 miles on it. Warranty repair and back on the road.

I've had some weird things happen when the magnetic pickup, on the top of the trans picked up some metal whiskers from the oil. The blinkers wouldn't work right, the speedo would jump all over the place, if it didn't spin completely around 360 degrees. And the cruise control wouldn't work. All I did was pull the sensor out and wipe it off, put it back in, and all was good. I did change the trans fluid and never had that issue again.,,

Happened on my 02 95 twinkie, and it was the sensor. At the time, $65 repair by Sioux City HD as we were west bound. Normally something I would do. It’s easy to access, at least that bike. On a trip, needed the cruise. Speedo was non issue. Good luck!

If the turn signals do not self cancel is another indicator that it could be the speed sensor. All functions worked on my wife’s bike, just the speed would jump around on the gauge.

Well I went ahead and ordered the speed sensor. Doesn’t look that bad to install and is the cheapest thing it could be. I’ll update this thread when I get it done.

So far it looks like replacing the speed sensor solved all the problems.
