At my first stop after a short ride when I installed the Khrome Werks mufflers on my bike white smoke was rolling out of the right side too and had a burning plastic smell. (Kinda embarrassing at a crowded gas station) The smoke subsided by the end of the day but it took another 100 miles or so to stop smelling like burning plastic.
It's just whatever they use to compress the packing during installation and it'll burn off eventually. BTW, as my Khrome Werks aged the sound got better with a deeper and more mellow tone.
When I installed the Rinehart dbx45's on my SG I used just a dab of PB Blaster, and that smoked for a few miles as it burnt off. If you used a lot of WD-40 then it may take a while, if that's what it is.
Just picked up a '23 RG ST myself, and am thinking about the same slip-ons; what's your impression of them so far?
I've never used WD-40, but I've used anti-seize. It will smoke, so I'd imagine, that's what you're seeing. Your concern about the tune not taking is interesting. What tuner did you use, and where did you get the tune?
Lastly, even if it didn't take, the bike wouldn't need a tune to run slip-ons. I used a tune (DynoJet Power Vision with a Fuel Moto tune) because I did a full exhaust. You need the tune for that.
I'm fairly certain, you ride it again, it will be just fine. I'd love to see some pics when you get a chance.
Thanks all, I took out on 50 ish mile ride. Told my wife it was mandatory lol. Love the sound and to the poster who mentioned the burning plastic, thats exactly what I had too. Good news when I got back no more smoking .phew. I have the new SE pro street with Bluetooth. Im debating on leaving the pipes as is or install the louvered baffles I bought with it.
