You are different. I know. That’s okay. Ride your own ride and I’ll ride mine.
Seeing as you quoted me, is that comment also directed at me? If it is, you might want to reread my post... I don't use a modulator anymore for the reasons stated in my post. If I'm mistaken regarding the target of that comment and it's meant to be a generic "you", my apologies.

Generic, others who want/need that safety device. It did read and appreciate your experience.
Yes they are annoying. They do their job while being very annoying. I had a guy follow me with one of those things for an hour. I finally had to get behind him. They should be outlawed.
Did I mention they are annoying???
Were you in the inside (non fast) lane?
I'd like to redeem my cross thread points for 68 lbs of candy corn please ( he goes for a triple and the crowd goes wild!)
He quit the modulator as on nearly every ride, cars saw him and believed he was signaling them it was okay to pull out in front of him.
That's interesting. And to be fair, I did think that that might be a possibility when I first installed my modulator.
However, I've not had that experience where someone thought I was signaling them to go ahead and pull out. The modulator flashes fairly rapidly and continuously. So it's hard to confuse that with someone just signaling another driver to go ahead.
Of all the negatives that people on this forum have mentioned, only one seems true - and that is that the modulator may annoy other drivers. But I've never had other drivers: mistake me for LEO, road rage against me because of my modulator, or pull out in front of me because they thought I was signaling them to go.
I've been using a modulator for more than 10 years. Only on streets, not highways/freeways.
Maybe I can expound upon what others call 'annoying'. I find headlight modulators distracting, to the point of being dangerous. If I see one behind me, Im already searching for a way to yield right. Now Im trying to judge how much time I have to get out of the way. Oh wait, its not an emergency vehicle? Let me look again, I mean some people are moving out of the way and others arent...all this time Im paying attention to the light and not the road. Oncoming, its the same situation but now Im staring harder to judge the distance. I dont doubt modulators effectiveness, sure they draw attention. I also feel that they can cause more of a commotion than they are worth and can detract from the safety from everyone around you. Just my smelly .02.

I concur. It does not increase your safety, just as super bright LED headlights do not increase your safety. They give you a false sense of security in that you believe others can see you better, even if that is balanced by distraction, blinding oncoming vehicles or just adding aggravation and annoyance to the road around you. I do know people who do this just to inflict discomfort on others. For me and me alone, it is a gimmick for new riders or insecure riders. You may post differently, but you will not change my experience. Argue away, enjoy your righteousness, gather your friends, it does not change my reality.
We have become a society where we get away with all we can. Now, I feel differently about those 3 pulse brake lights. I pulse my brake automatically even in my truck and dont need a device to do my thinking or awareness for me.
Fire away, I need to be entertained in this cold rain.

can you imagine being in Sturgis if EVERY motorcycle had one installed?
I saw only one this summer, I get the safety angle but it was almost distracting approaching it. To each their own.
