Is there software available to enable the rear channels on a Street Glide?
Thanks,
Frank
Yes there is a upgrade, but only the dealer can do it for you. They will charge you. You will need another wiring harness also. I would love to have one of these radios off an ultra to play with. I wonder if I could extract the software and make it available. This is a senseless way to make money from the expensive T-Shirt stores.
Another option for the rear speakers for the Street Glide is to go with the Hogtune speaker/amp upgrade. Click on the link below.
So there is no reason to upgrade unless you have problems. Is this correct ?
I say that's correct. I'm from the school of "If It's Not Broke, Don't Fix It". My '07 radio would come on about 10% of the time when the ignition switch was turned on (even though the radio was off when the bike was shut down). It took the dealer two different downloads to cure the glitch. If you're not having problems, don't look for any.
trying to download the upgrades to a CD, but it won't take. Won't copy. "zero interger error". I am umzipping the files, but that will no copy to disk, also getting an "extra information error"
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
thanks
One of the upgrades early on increased the volume considerably on my 06, so I wouldn't say that it's only for correcting problems. But since some people have had problems after some upgrades you might try to get your hands on the *previous* version to use as a backup. In other words, if you burn an upgrade disk and don't have problems with the software, don't throw the disk away. Keep it in case a later upgrade fubars on you.
Although I haven't actually done it I understand the process to be as follows.[sm=pcwhack.gif]
-Download upgrade to a PC
-Unzip the ZIP file (which should contain files)
-Copy the 2 files (not the ZIP) to a CD (using Nero or whatever.....as a DATA disk not music)
-Place the CD into the HK CD slot and let the HK onboard computer find the files (loader and data)
This is kind of similar to BIOS upgrades on a PC (if fact this is probably exactly what is happening)
I've got an 06 Ultra as well... Have done several upgrades since getting the bike. Haven't had any problems with the upgrades and some of them have been benifical.
As stated above, did help increase the volume.
Also now am able to display track/song info from CD & MP3's
also seemed to correct a problem with the clock constantly gaining time.
current version of the software is 8.19.. (directions for checking your version are in one of the links above)
the upgrade, among other things, allows the radio/CD/MP3 to display the song title and artist name. My original (06) version did not do that.
I had problems with my radio playing for 30-40 seconds, then cutting out for 1 or 2 seconds.. reburnt the CD and reinstalled (see VERY IMPORTANT below) .. works fine now
There was some feedback that the newest version caused a loss in Volume on mp3 files, but mp3 volume levels are controlled when a CD is converted into an mp3 file.
If you do find that you have an old version (8.0x), I would suggest doing the upgrades in sequence till you get what you're looking for (song display).
ALSO.. VERY IMPORTANT.. when you burn the files to your data CD, make sure you burn them at the lowest speed your computer will handle.. This ensures that the laser burns deep enough into the CD. If you burn it too fast, you may have problems with the software.
before you insert the DATA CD into your bike, turn the volume on the radio down.. the installation will periodically allow sounds thru, and if the vol is up, you think something's wrong.
My advice would be don't do it unless you are having problems. These radios are pretty sensitive. I did one update (don't remember which one) and had to re-update with an older version to get it to work right again.
