I let my fuel filter go to 100K and it was caked with dirt. After the change throttle response was much quicker. Tech told me to replace at 50K not the 100K in SM.

They still need to replaced at 25,000 or less in my opinion. Seen some looking pretty bad at 20,000.

I changed the filter on the Low Rider at 40k, the RGL at 25k, both were very dark, 25k is the max I run them now.

In the UK the XL fuel filter kit is Ł138! Wow wee!!

My 14 SGS Fuel Pump started making a very intermittent "screaming" sound when powering the bike up about 25,000 miles ago. Started a new thread about it here and decided to change the filter/regulator on it before a trip. It really had little effect on the noise. It reminds me of a fan motor shaft chattering in a bronze bushing when it gets worn a bit. The bike is getting torn down this winter for a motor refresh and I will change out the whole fuel system in the tank at that time.

Had the fuel filter canister fail about 1000 miles after a fuel filter change. Even at that low mileage the filter was quite dark. My THEORY is that the filter material turns dark in a gasoline environment regardless of whether it is dirty or not.
