OP, I’ve done stage 2 upgrades to most of my harley’s. In my experience, the M8 motor benefits significantly by just doing these bolt on upgrades. I’ve never chased hp/tq numbers and got into mind numbing cam comparisons. Improved throttle response, power available at the right rpm range and of course a great sounding, reliable running motor has always been my goal.
having said all that, not living in Arizona/ Tx type heat, I’ve never felt the need to decat the headpipes, only used slipons (khromewerks or rineharts), a ventilator type hiflo ac, a HD power cam (I ride mostly north of 2500 rpm) and a Harley stage 2 download and been done with it. I’ve put over 150k miles on M8 bikes using this setup, been super happy with the upgrades and gotten flawless performance with good gas mileage. In my younger days, I used to drop serious cash having motors bored/stroked, heads polished and ported, cams, dynotuning etc. Since the advent of the TC 103 then the TC 110 and now the M8’s, a stage 2 is best bang for the buck. In my opinion, the M8 114 is a jewel of a motor.

The blanket statement a 2-1 will make more power may not always be true. Alot depends on what cam you have and air cleaner. My buddy and I both have 2019 with 114ci and both run RS472 camshaft. I have Fullsac headpipe and Rinehart Motopro 4.5 and he has Bassani 2-1. Mine made 109 HP & 126 torque and his made 107HP and 122 torque. The big difference is when the torque starts mine doesnt really start till 2800 rpm but with the 2-1 pipe its coming in at about 2200rpm. I keep my rpms at 2700 or above anyway thats how I ride. I'm old so that could be why I couldnt tell any differenc between the 2 bikes above 2500 rpm. Both bikes were dynoed by the same technician.
