I am thinking real hard about buying a new FXDWG.I want to
get a Stage 1 done before I pick up the bike.Do I need to do anything
to the stock pipes like change to Rush slip ons or can the Stage 1 be done
now and the pipe change later?I am trying to get the least amount of upgrades and still get the Stage 1 to keep initial costs low.
If you're looking to save costs, get a set of slip ons and save up some money. A stage 1 is basically 3 parts- you'll have one when you add an intake system and some kind of tuner or download. Everyone has their favorites so just spend some time here and do a little research.
Don't do slip on's... you'll be sorry. Wait and do a full set of pipes, open a/c, fuel managemnt system and a a full dyno tune all at once when you can afford it. I did mine before I picked the bike up and never regretted it.
You can change the exhaust without getting the tuner or download. I got the V&H Bigshots before taking the bike home. Now I'm getting the air cleaner and PCV.
pass on the slip ons stage one is basicly the pipes air cleaner and you can have h.d dealer just do the download mine charged me 50 bucks. it took three yrs but now i am into stage 11 i would of been money ahead waiting but don`t worry about what others think of your exhaust,
