Default Help

Hey I have an 03 Electra glide. I just upgraded my camchest and have issues ever since. It finally seems like I have figured almost everything out. Originally I did a new SE cam chest. 585 cams se cam plate hydraulic tensioners high flow oil pump. You know the works. Had a noise that I narrowed down to being the cam spacer was wrong cause chain noise when it warmed up. Now I have the carb tuned the best I can but it seems as though I lose power around 3k rpm. And it’s shooting flames out the exhaust. Is 03 still one of the years I need to upgrade valve springs as well? I will also note mufflers are wide open no baffles currently waiting new slips one. Could it be the mufflers or a valve spring issue being too much cam?

I would check to be sure the timing marks are aligned correctly on the cams and the crank. Flames coming out of the exhaust signals the valve timing is off.. Were the pistons at TDC when disassembly/ reassembly done ? That's where I would start.

Everything is timed right it only spits flames when I get to about 4K rpm. It seems as if I may need to upgrade the valve springs bc they can’t keep up with the lift in the new cam.

If your going to do that, you might as well do the heads too, bigger valves, springs, port, polish and flow and then a dyno tune .How about the ignition module, coil and wires are they all good ? Just a thought..

If it's spitting flames, that's not valve springs being overwhelmed at 4k rpm. Most likely the cams, or maybe just one, is mistimed, as others have said. This is the work you were doing, so it's the most likely problem point.
