What year did the mother ship finally get the bugs out of the M8 to the point you’d buy one no questions asked ? I’m looking around for a RK Special and I wouldn’t pay the Moco Tax. They can keep the new ones lol.
For me...2019 my CVO Limited was 99% bug free. The only issue was...... I was transfering Trans oil to the primary. The HD venting kit solved it.
My 2018 CVO Limited overheated at 600 miles due to sumping.
The cylinders and pistons were replaced at 600 miles....again at near 1000miles same thing. Then 1200 miles again. Harley took the 18 back and gave me a 2019. I was going to lemon law it. Dealer saved me.
Yes HD tech rep was present twice. I think the first overheat warped the case so bad nothing they did worked. But I'm no mechanic. My 2019 has 30k on it and is perfect.
It was mid model year 2019 when they got the oil pump design figured out. You could buy a 2017-19 but if I bought one I would put the new oil pump in it. Given that used bike prices have become reasonable, I would just look for a 2020 or later. I am sure you can find a clean, low mileage unit with a Stage 1. When I have bough used, I always preferred close to stock and avoided butcher jobs.

Preciate cha, I’m looking at 2020 and newer scooters from private owners, actually a RK Special and nothing that’s anywhere much more than stock, I don’t care about any of the little add ons I’ve got my own plans.
