Default RE: considering Goldwing

Ok so buried in this thread was some good advise. Today I took the time to go test ride a GW with my neighbor. First time I have ever been on a GW.

Bottom Line: I couold neverown one. I felt confined and trapped by the fairing, the upright riding position was not for me and the peg and shift locations where ackward. My buddy struggled making the change from his RKC.

But having said that I will also say this machine has significant *****. It is quiet but it has serious low end torque and the gearbox was excellent. I beat the living **** out of this ride, slamming on the ABS @ 50mph throttling up in 4 gear after a hard stop. I will tell you it is very well engineered.

I can understand why people like them, but at the end of the ride I was running to get back on my Roadglide and stretch out.

Harley would do well to build something that can perform as well as that ride. I could never see myself sitting in that position for any length of time though.

I would have to have Jennifer Alba on the back to make the change. And then again I could always strap saddlebags to my ears and print corbin across my forehead and let her have a seat.

My OL has a seriously bad back. We take a long trip every year, as well as several shorter trips. She ABSOLUTELY loves the seat and seating position on my E-Glide. I have been to the GW forum and they bash HD way more than we bash Wings. To me they are just a bunch of arrogant a-holes that feel the need to justify their purchase of a wing by bashing HD. I am sure the wing is a great machine, just not for me.

I would second that. My advise when I left my buddy was to look for a good Pre 2007 Ultra. As with anything there are rarely single solutions to fit all.

But I have to tell you I had a wide sh**eating grin on my face as I throttled my way home on my Glide.....Yeeeeee Haaaaaa. That bike flys

I'll throw my .02 in on this... I have had both a Wing and now a Ultra... For power, comfort and touring the Wing is great.... But there is more than that to a bike.... To me the Wing was transportation just like my truck.. But if you want to ride you take the Ultra...
It's not how fast you get there it's the road you take.....

My father owns a Goldwing and has had no problems except not enough time to ride it. I really don't think it matters what you ride just as long as your riding and you enjoy it. Buy what you want and ride it proud

Yep
Here we go again. It doesnt matter what you ride as long as you ride.Ive said it before and Ill say it again! I have owned both HD & GW you will have less problems with the GW, BUT its like this IMO if the destination is most important too you GO WITH THE GW, if getting their is most important GO WITH THE HD. You should also remember there is other brands as well. all of them basically trouble free.

I have been thinking about the GW ride all day. Another thing that stuck with me was how I felt that for such a big big it seemed very small. I mean on a harley you know your on a big bike...you kinda stretch out, the controls are more forward, but on the Wing Everything seemed compressed. It had a cockpit feeling that I could not warm up to. But I will say it again, no doubting this thing moves and is very quick. It was a good thing I did not have to shift much because I was having trouble getting under the shift from the peg.

Funny thing though when I was riding I had this overwhelming urge to go to a DQ...
