I am amazed at how lucky I am finding replacement parts for my 2011 FLHR and 2010 FLSTFB. Not to mention compatibility between models and years. Try doing that with any other brand of motorcycle. For Kawasaki, Yamaha, Triumph, Honda, next to impossible. I know, I have owned numerous examples of them over almost 40 years.
There are numerous things to complain about when it comes to HD but part hunting is not high on the list...
I have had good luck with Boneyard cycles in Fla. They have lots of great quality NOS parts in the wrapper. I don't believe its vintage or aged out. I never had this issue when ordering from HD. I still have my 09 Heritage.. Were the parts ordered from Mothership or a dealer?

Having worked in the Service Dept of a Harley dealer they considered any Harley more than 10 years old as basically obsolete. Being an old school guy I can't tell you how many calls were referred to me about Panheads and Shovelheads the younger guys could not answer
Try finding anything new for a 2001 Yamaha Roadstar. Hell, when they were new there wasn't much for parts support from the factory, let alone anything aftermarket.
Parts hunting has been a "bear" for anything it seems after co-vid.... My jeep TJ project has had its up and downs. Heck, I was looking for the gloss black oil cooling cover of my Low Rider ST out of the 2022 HD catalog, and that was "obsolete" already...
