A hydraulic clutch is just better in every way. I love how the Hd salesmen try to say why a cable clutch is better. There’s nothing better about a cable clutch unless you like getting a left hand workout while riding your bike. Less moving parts, less chance of a cable break, no stretching, less maintenance, better smoother feel. It’s one of those parts that the rider notices all the time and it’s not where they should have tried to cheap out. Overall the new bikes are great.

Except for when the clutch fluid boils and cavitates and then you lose your clutch, then its not better in every way....just sayin

I guess lol but I’ve never had that happen or heard of it happening to anyone else in 200k miles of riding. Suppose anything’s possible though. Much more likely the cable breaks.

I can fix a broken cable on the road with a few simple tools....... hydraulic clutch, not so much. Cables worked great for the last hundred years. I've been riding since the mid '60's, have owned over 45 motorcycles, and have never experienced a broken clutch cable. Just saying.

Happened to me when I was down in TN. I was in some park that had a loop of several miles and the traffic was just crawling. The clutch was getting worked alot and the heat from the bike with no airflow was just more than the fluid could handle. I got about 1/2 mile form the end and completely lost my clutch.

I was able to pull off and let everything cool down. I popped the reservoir cover off and cycled the clutch several times to get some of the air out. I put it back together and was able to get on with my trip. I did stop and get some new fluid and replaced what i could from the resivour a couple times during the rest of the trip and then cycled with fresh when I made it back home.

i took out a new road glide a few weeks ago. i kinda like the new RG fairing. power difference between that and my 21, didnt notice any. the stock seat was really nice. it was grippy and had a nice dish to it. i prefer my analog gauges but the big screen was nice and it was pretty much vertical so you wouldnt get blinded by sun reflection at a certain point in the day. im not a road glide guy but i thought it could happen on the previous model with the angled screen. i didnt like the raw plastic inner fairing and speaker grills. it just looked cheap. waaaaaaay too many buttons. im sure id get used to it but it has twice as many thumb buttons as my 21, which to me has a lot. the height of the factory bars on the RG is nice. i like my droopy bags but the added width of the new ones is nice. the air cleaner is ugly. those are my thoughts.

Years ago I had just purchased a well used metric cruiser. Typical college roach bike. I was riding home from class and the clutch was only working occasionally and felt very weak. I limped it home and opened up the clutch master cylinder......mud.....it looked like mud. A quick 20 minute fluid change and bleed and I was back in business. So yeah, it does happen, but the fluid has to be REAL nasty.

I rode a 24 road glide the other day as well. I couldn’t believe how high the bars were for a stock bike. It wasn’t the height that bothered me it was the wrist angle. Idk how people ride those bars. I’m used to street glide bars I guess. The reminded me of riding one of those 70s style bicycles where the bars come way back and your elbows are bent.
