If they did remove maybe failed and didn't want to spend money. Not sure how that works on bike. Easy on auto

Been a number of them that have locked up and left a person the a hard pedal or lever.
Along with no brakes applying to one or the other.
Haven't heard of one locking up both at the same time ___ yet
Lots of threads on it.

But as said, might have been expensive to fix.
I wouldnt rule out some old guy removing perfectly good abs either cause it upset him
2. As stated there were problems with the ABS Freezing up if not flushed and cycled per the service manual every 2 years or more if the moisture content was high in the fluid.
3. A recall was issued, see: https://www.hdforums.com/articles/ha...ty-abs-brakes/
4. Unfortunately, problems with ABS technology have plagued Harley-Davidson motorcycles in recent years. The brand issued a recall in January to ensure 2008-2011 Touring models received a critical brake fluid replacement. And now, they’re urging owners to bring their motorcycles in for service and repairs.
5. The recall affects 175,000 motorcycles in the U.S. and 250,000 worldwide to fix a problem that could lead to sudden brake failure. In the recall, Harley-Davidson states that a faulty ABS module and/or neglected maintenance can lead to caliper failure. “This condition is associated with delayed or neglected brake fluid maintenance as specified in the owner’s manual,” said Carolyn Duranowski, director of marketing at Oakland Harley-Davidson. “Harley-Davidson is offering the remedy fluid flush free of charge to all motorcycles within the recall population, regardless of their maintenance history.”
6. You can put your VIN in here to see if the recall was ever addressed: https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...e-recalls.html
7. Looks like the previous owner did a good job with the bypass.
NOTE:
The above information, while credible, is worth what you paid for it and should not be considered gospel.
Do due diligence, research and have a H-D Field Service Manual before working on your bike.
You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.
