I've got the Biketronics/Sony radio set-up on my 2003 FLHT. I've had it with no problems for around 18 months. Yesterday on the way to work the radio all of a sudden shut off. It stayed off for a few seconds and then came back on for a few seconds. It did this for a couple of minutes and then shut off until I got to work. On the way home, the radio came on when I started the bike, and before I was out of the parking lot it started shutting off and coming on again. The radio doesn't lose any of it settings and the clock keeps the right time when it comes back on. I've noticed a couple of times lately that when I first startthe bike, the high beam indicator show ups on the dash for aabout 30 secondsand then goes out. The high beam is shut off when this happens. I've also notice my tach needle will dance around every so often before returning to where it should be running. It's been really, really hot here lately(mid to high90s) and I wondered if that could be effecting the radio since it's a car radio and not really a bike radio. Wondering if I should think about installing a H-D radio? Thanks for any help or advice in advance.
Sounds like a short. Pull the radio plug-in converter and check the harness for a break in the wires. Then check the pin connectors.
I agree. The heat shouldn't affect the radio. It's been really hot here in Va Beach as well and haven't had any problems. You can also call biketronics. I've had to call them a couple of times. They really have excellent service!
Check the ground connections from the Biketronics unit to the bike. Also, check the ignition power connection from the Biketronics unit to the bike. And check for abrasions on the wiring; depending on how you mounted the Biketronics unit and secured it inside your fairing you may havean intermittent short from the unit moving against a fairing bracket, for example.
If the time and station memory are being kept, it sounds like the "other" power line to the radio. The continouous one seems to be intact, or you would lose those settings. My.02
