Looking for help from '07 and '08 owners
Proposed build on '08 Ultra:
SE Air Cleaner
SE Race Tuner
Vance and Hines True Dual Headers
Supertrapp Touring Pipes (basically, the old SE IIs before catalyst mufflers)
SE A/C: As already mentioned, consider a K&N or Ness BS for the cleanable filter.
True Duals: Despite the controversy, true-duals (i.e. sans the crossover) will hurt performance somewhat. This has been proven through dyno testing from multiple sources, and if you don't believe it call Jamie at Fuel Moto, who does about 100 dyno tests per month. There have also been articles in American Iron magazine that reference this.
Cam: Have been watching the cam situation myself, but I don't see any dyno charts that are impressive enough for me to bite. I believe the cam makers will have to develop 96"-specific cams before I'll even consider. For me, I'm interested in low-end and midrange TQ, while peak HP is a secondary concern. Results from two dyno tests on 26H's and reported here were underwhelming to say the least.
I believe you will find this engine stronger than you might think once you open it up (mufflers & AC) and get the A/F in line. In fact, I may leave mine alone, as I consider the performance quite satisfactory as is.
I'd get the 103. You aint gonna be happy with that 96....
I have a friend with a 95" FLHTC with Black Widow BW39 cam, porting, and stock compression. He and I are about equal in performance.

I dunno what yer definition of "pricey"is...hell, it's none of my business. But a Screamin' EagleÂŽ Street Legal Big Bore Stage II Kit for EFI Models - 103ci kit lists for $1,199.00 That includes the 255 cams and the Stage I air cleaner, along with slugs, jugs, clutch spring, etc. That's hella cheap horsepower in my opinion.
That is the kit I used, btw... I also added Rinehart True Duals ($899.00) and the way-cool AIM VP clutch ($245) I know, it adds up fast, but with stock heads, I'm makin' power and torque that pulls us around with authority. Total price was under $4K, which included the SERT ($440) and a couple hours on the Dyno. I think labor camein at $1K.
I am so pleased with my build that I would recommend it to anyone looking for more power on a budget. Good luck with your build. I know you will make the right decision.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
The Cam is the heart of the motor, it does make a big differance, not to radical, just a mild mid-range cam is good!! As far as duals, they do help alittle, very little, they do take away from the bottom end, but they will give you alittle more top end!!
V & H duals with their oval slip-ons are good with the 96 motor and sound good too!!RineHart true duals are alittle more $$, they will perform better, I am just not a lover of their sound, some people like it, but they have alittle bit differant sound to them, not as deep as the V & H's.
The SE-103 big bore kit is a good up-grade, but if you want to only spendso much, this is probably the best bag fora budget improvement, Just my opinion[sm=smiley20.gif]
SEhigh flow air cleaner
SERT (definitly)
Cams (SE-255's or SE-258's)
V & H duals w/ V & H oval slip-ons
Better oil, lots of after market motorcycle oils out there are much better!!
Also, you can call around to differant bike shops and dealers and ask one of the service guys for alittle advice, sometimes they like to give their opinion and you can just get some ideas. Ask any engine guy and he will tell you that the cams will make a big differance and is worth the $$.Alot will have differant opinions on which cams to use, but they will usually explain why!! There are manydifferant ones to choose from, I just stayed with the SE ones!!
Good Luck,
Mike
