Maybe I'm just brain farting and I'm embarrassed to ask but it might be important.
I have a 2010 RK......I've started it a thousand times.
When I put switch to "Start"......the little red oil can comes on then goes off when I start bike and stays off.
For the life if me I don't remember the oil can showing, just the neutral "N".
Bikes running great, oil level great and no leaks.
Possible senior moment?????

It's comes on because there is no oil pressure, if it doesn't come on before you start that most likely means the bulb is bad which is an essential check feature.
laughing out really loud.... I had the EXACT moment couple years back and asked the same question...I have 43000 on my bike.... crazy... it is definitely a senior moment my friend

HAHAHA........When I saw it come on I almost didn't go for my ride!
But I figured if the oil light aint on when motor is running, all must be good.
But it did spook me!!
Don't laugh too hard. Twice at a gas station I've hit the starter switch only to hear nothing, no click, no start. After checking that I was in neutral, checking that the clutch lever was in and then looking at the switches on the right side I realized I was hitting the kill switch, which was already in the start position, but not hitting the starter switch.
Senior moments - don't knock'em until you tried'em!
I reused the horn button on mine to open the garage door. The number of times I pull in the driveway and hit the left turn signal is almost comical. Muscle memory I suppose. The ABS light would catch me offguard at first on my last bike.
during the initial start up, all of the idiot lights should illuminate. that's to let you know that all bulbs are good and the bike is capable of displaying any faults.
