I used a new Brillo pad and lots of water and patience and mine was fine. I tried the greenie with no luck. It looked like it was a wal-mart bag that came off the road and hit the pipe. Not easy to get off.
You have got to try a product called Road Rub . You can pick it up from your local HD dealer or any bike dealer . This stuff is amazing , my wife touch my mufflers with a Target sack , what a mess . The Road Rub worked like a big eraser and took the plastic off and shined the pipe up while doing it . It appears to be a bit abrasive but it is not , amazing stuff. Costs about $4.00 and looks like a small deodorant dispenser , you gotta try it.
I use a old credit card. The plastic will not scratch the chrome. Once you get the corner to peel up it will come off in sheets. You can -for harder to get off stuff-let the engine run for a few min. and use a good oven cleaner.
Get the pipes good and hot then wipe it with Eagle One Never Dull Wadding. It will come off and polish the pipe at the same time but the trick is to have the pipes hot.
