Simply swapping a belt yourself requires at least a new outer primary gasket, new primary fluid and a few hours of time. Swapping in a new chain/master link is far quicker, cheaper and a lot less time consuming. I get not wanting to invest in a chain drive setup if youre not pushing 100+ HP but ask a lot of the touring pros and they much prefer a chain setup for maintenance/emergency repair reasons.
Im still researching the best setup for me with budget and performance in mind. Vulcan Engineering makes a nice setup Ive found.
