I need to register this motorcycle and I cannot find the engine number. It’s different from VIN.
1993 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. I already looked by the cylinders and everywhere else that online suggested with no luck.
If you do not find a serial number on the primary side of the case below the jugs, then cases where replaced with after market cases/motor.
Also to point out, on rear brake lever of bike side, should be serial number on trans as well.
If all factory bike, the frame/trans/engine serial numbers should match.
Interesting you need an Engine serial number. Is this for registration in CA? Until 1970 Harley embossed the "engine number" on the left side at the base of the cylinders. This number was also the "VIN" since the 17 digit VIN did not exist yet. My Panhead was 52FL1624 for example. I've registered motorcycles in CA when I lived there and do not recall needing and engine number.

Yes, CA puts the engine identification number (EIN) on motorcycle registrations...
so what does one have to do if they purchased a used engine.
If you change the engine, you're supposed to visit the DMV. You get the proper forms to amend/change your registration/pink slip, go have CHP (or DMV inspector) verify the new engine number (and that it's not reported stolen), pay the appropriate fee (it IS California, nothing is allowed without a fee), file the paperwork, and your new registration/Pink Slip will reflect the new Engine number.
Yep, all about making sure things are not stolen, and now with cars, they are pulling the vin numbers from the ECM/BCM, in case the car vin on the dash has been replaced with fake one. With bikes now having ECM, only a matter of time until they start doing that with the bikes as well.
Hence to flash a ECM or BCM with manufacturers software, need to use the correct real vin number for the car for the flash to work, SO just can't use a fake vin number that is ether over stamp or changed vin plate to pull that one off.
