Default explain how stock air shocks work

Hi All

The other day Icheck the pressure in my shocks and found oil all over my pressure guage and nozzle when I pulled the guage off.The guage read zero, soI added about 10psi thinking the air would press the oil back into the shocks. There wasstilloil in the nozzle after I added the air. Now I'm findingoil on the right white wallof the rear tire. I check the bike over pretty good looking for anoil leakon the engine orwheel bearing, but found nothing. Then last night I remembered the oil in the shock nozzle and I'm pretty sure that is the source of the oil on the tire. I haven't had time to pull the bagyet to look, but assuming the air nozzleis the source of the leak, are my shocks broke? Should oil be leaking out of the nozzle? How can I stop it?

Thanks ahead for you help.

oil should not be leaking out of the shock...sometimes they do...the shock is a standard oil/valve shock with air assist for the firmness....perhaps the check valve in the shock has a dislodged ball, perhaps defective or just an overfill....i'd bet on the dislodged valve tho and it should right itself..clean it and watch....run 8-10lbs for solo and 15-25 loaded up as a general rule

Sounds like you have a bad shock, or it might be ok if it holds air try it awhile, if under warranty ask dealer to look at it. Ive been riding on harley air shocks for a long time with no problems, just keep them checked for the right pressure for your load.

Is there a way to tell which shock is the problem? Can I just pull the tubing off the shock? I pretty much just ride single rider, so I'm not stressing the shocks.

I would not run them empty, you will have no rear shock action, these shocks are cheap, see sets sell on ebay all the time very cheap.

I have no trouble with leakingair, its the leaking oil messing up my sidewalls that is driving me crazy. The oil also brokemy pressure guage. I amthinking about the Ebay suggestion.

Nice bike Seth.
