Default Rubber Mounted vs Counter ballance

I have had a few Softail models and recently purchased a new Street Glide. My question for you experienced touring bike riders is: How long does it take before you feel comfortable with all the vibration at the low end and idle? I do miss the smoothness of the Softails, but at the cruising speeds the SG is wonderful. Appreciate your comments.

I ride with a buddy who has a gold wing.......
We were riding one day and pulled up to a stop light and he pointed at my engine and said "whats that?"

Its an engine dummy.
Mine dont jump around like that.
Thats cause you aint riding a real motorcycle.
No reply.

Seriously, you will get used to it and not think twice about it after a while. At cruising speeds you will always be glad you moved up to a touring bike.

I own an '04 RK, my first Harley. I actually really enjoy that shaking especially at idle. It feels like a real motorcycle to me. However, I have rented softails and enjoy their smoothness. Given a choice, I would take the rubber mounted.

Well I traded a 04 Heritage in on my Eltraglide and I'll have to say that I like the feel more than the smoothness of the 88b, it gives me a diff feel, of like more power or something.
I will say that I'll probally never go back to a softail, I love the way my bike rides and handles, smoooooth.

Wife has a Heritage, and I have an EG Classic. I don't mind the shake at idle, and at riding speeds the rubber mount is smoother. I also think the rubber mount feels like it has more power. This is probably because the counterbalancers rob some of the power.

Regards,

Bill

not to offend anyone but i rode three softails before i bought my RK. I found the RK rubber mount smoother and especially quieter. what i did not like most about the softails was the lack of road feel that my RK has. I rode a fatboy 300 miles around big island Hawaii last year and took quite a while to get used to the ride and handling. one of my riding buddies sold his lowrider and bought a softail. he said on the way home he had to keep looking down to make sure the tires were on the ground. LOL. these are MY opinions, please let's not get a flaming thread going here. they are all great motorcycles.
