I just retired the 1984 FXRT that I've ridden since new (pic at http://www.wildwestcycle.com/f_bigtank.html/), onto an '07 Road Glide.
The RT is carrying the stock fairing, and the lowers that were available for a while. They are a good combo. The cylinder head temp gauge I used to run told me that the lowers knocked 15 to 20 degrees off cylinder head temps (and thus helped oil temps) when they were installed. No guesses; that's data. They were designed in a wind tunnel by Harley back when they cared about such small things, and it shows.
The pics I've seen of the lowers for the RG fairing show a similar profile to the FXRT's, but I can't really tell how close they are. There are no real ones around here to look at. Do the RG lowers duct air to the heads, or not?
And do they mount flush against the bottom of the fairing like the ones on the FXRT do? Or do they leave a gap that runs air across your knees, like the lowers that mount with the batwind fairing?
Final question: the fairing on the Road Glide is obviously grandson to the one on the early Tour Glide (FLTC - 1982 to 1986, more or less). Does anyone know whether or not the lowers that went with that old fairing will mount up to the current one?
