Knew I would take off the stockers within 1 month of purchase, (after the seat and bars). Got some progressive 418s last winter, no regrets. Not much of a price savings over the 440s though.
My 02 Glide has a set of 416Progressive's and they are much better than the stock Harleys. Also hear the 440 Progressives are better still. Some of our New England roads are in tough shape, these shockssmooth most of the teeth jarring bumps.
Works Performance 12.5 " Street Trackers are my choice in chrome and black for my SG. The 12.5" is the lowest you can go and maintain the dual action spring system and adjustable pre-load. These shocks work, look awesome and Works builds them to fit your weight and riding style in different finishes http://www.worksperformance.com/html/street.html.
when i still use stock rear shock (12")on my SG......it will wobble at high speed lean, say about 100km/h up.....especially at long sweeper....
last week before i did 1700 km trip, i change with EG stock shock (13")...and what a difference...no wobble, no rearward movement when on hard acceleration, absorb bumpy well....
my advice is:
long trip= 13 "....(no matter what brand)....
city/cafe to cafe ride= 12"....coz look cool....
[sm=smiley31.gif]AAhhh ! Now this is more like it & there's some useful info I can work with [sm=smiley20.gif]
Wanna try to stay with the stock 13" length { not worried about looks or impressions }just ride -ability, and performance when loaded { 2 up and whatever the wife "has to bring along "..LOL !! } Looks like the 2 main choices { and priced within my budget } are Progressive & Works ? Penske units sound nice , but way too much $$ for me ...got other "goodies " to get also , LOL ! [sm=thanx.gif]
I just installed 13" progressive 440's on my SG. I am not impressed, they are very stiff and I have the standard spring load. Prior to the 440's I had HD 13" air shocks and at this point Ihave to saythey offered a plusher ride. The 12" stock shocks are out of the question!
