[sm=smiley31.gif]AAhhh ! Now this is more like it & there's some useful info I can work with [sm=smiley20.gif]
Wanna try to stay with the stock 13" length { not worried about looks or impressions }just ride -ability, and performance when loaded { 2 up and whatever the wife "has to bring along "..LOL !! } Looks like the 2 main choices { and priced within my budget } are Progressive & Works ? Penske units sound nice , but way too much $$ for me ...got other "goodies " to get also , LOL ! [sm=thanx.gif]
Motorcyclemetal.com/Penske shocks are 2X the prce of the other offerings. You get what you pay for. Spend money on chrome or make your bike ride better. That is your choice. These units were not made for everyone. The difference is like night & day. No shock available with the same ride that I know about. shorter shocks? No difference in ride quality with a shorter one. Technology is different. No air ride as these shocks are built correctly in the beginning. Pressurizing the shocks cause "Sticksion"[/i] (a form of friction) which makes them not work well. A cheep way to adjust. Just because it fits, does not mean it works. Thanks!
Spend money on chrome or make your bike ride better. That is your choice.LMAO !!!--Could care less about chrome crap, thats why I own a Standard .......[sm=smiley21.gif]
I have an 07 Ultra that is usually ran fully loaded, and then some. I sent an email to Progressive and they reccomended to me the 13.5 in 416 air shocks. I have also found them priced at $330 shipping included. I hear lots about the 440's but Im worried that when I ride solo they will be to harsh. So Im likely headed the way of the 416's.
Just ordered a set of Works Performance Steel Trackers . Tech Rep took all my info { they are built to my supplied info } regarding rider, passenger, loads, type of riding, etc. and said I'd have 'em in approx. 2 weeks . I had a set of 440's on my '02 bagger and was not impressed then, thats why I started this post to begin with. Thought maybe they had improved since then but after reading alot of the negatives , have decided to go with W/P instead . The Penske units may very well be a very good shock { maybe the best ? }, but are " cost prohibitive " for me . Thanks for all the intelligent replys that were posted !
PS : HOG members get 10% off the cost .

before you lay your hard earned money down do a search on the works shocks...
You probably wont like what you read...I had tossed them around but after reading the negative reviews and the problems some of the memebers were having I chooose to go anothe route...
as on e post said earlier You get what you pay for...So if you want quaility but a quailty shock and dont squimp because it's a few dollars higher...It will be ell worth it in the long run...
Are you prepared to send the shocks back after you get 30-40,00 miles on them to be overhauled and fork out another $100 including shipping back to works?
Something to think about...But what ever you do ...do a search on works shocks and educate your self...
So one guy had some issues with what he thought was poor customer service from Works when he was told, and heaven forbid, that he might want them rebuilt if they let him down at 40,000 freakin' miles, and it would cost him $100 plus shipping! Sheesh.
Yeah.....get some 440s and watch them pack it in within a 1/2 a season, then send 'em back to Progressive to be rebuilt with less than 5000 miles like I have to.
I had some issues on about Day 10 with mine...'cause they sucked before failing. Progressive suggested swapping out to HD springs and it was only gonna cost me $100 PLUS shipping to do it, even when THEY advised me I ought to get Regular springs for my weight PRIOR to purchasing them.
Anyway, we all have our own customer service issues; you don't want to get me started on mine. I'll be sure to let you all know what grief I get from Progressive when I send them in AFTER the warranty period despite them failing in less than 5 months time.
Yeah, pass on the Works then, or maybe take it from a guy who has owned BOTH Works and 440s.
Better still, go with the Penskes. Sounds like they won't let you down.
I got THE WORKS shocks and eventho its far better than stock i am still not a believer.
When i received my shocks and installed it the shocks are hard as a rock so they said return it.
i pay the return shipping(sucks) so i said fine i returned it.after a week or so i received it and installed again.
I rode that shocks 1400 miles it bottoms once in a while no matter what setting.keep in mind that these shock are supose to be custom made
for me and my ol weight.
I might give this penske shocks a try.
