After replacing my battery at the beginning of the summer I had the same problem, except the bike turned over just as slowly as it did before the new battery and it would not fire up. After checking grounds and cables (and yes, the new battery was fully charged prior to installation), someone posted to check the fuel line connection right below the tank again. I thought, yeah right, I just reconnected that line and it was fine. Well, I pulled slightly on the line and it disconnected immediately. Turns out I did not have it fully seated. So, after reconnecting the fuel line the starter turned over quickly and the bike fired right up.
So, OP, if you do ever return, disconnect and reconnect your fuel line!
