I couple of weeks ago I rented a 2007 Electra Glide Classic. I have a 2001 Goldwing that I bought new (60,000 mile now) and will be buying a new bike soon. My thoughts on the Harley: It was a very fun bike to ride, easy handling and it had soul. The Goldwing will run circles around it as far as power is concerned. On the interstate I could not believe how fantastic the Harley was, NO BUFFETING even at 80. The Goldwing will beat you to death and wear you out. I am 6'7" and weigh 300 and the Harley has much more room especially for the legs. On the Goldwing I can only move my legs about 2 inches before I hit the fairing. The Harley was hotter and made more noise (gear whine) but I know that some of that has been addressed on the 2008 or with aftermarket parts. Looks like a 2008 Ultra Classic will be in my future.

This is where that "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand" part comes in. You understand. Welcome to Harley bagger world!
I have a buddy who rode wings for many years ... in '89 switched over to an UC and proceeded to put 417,889 miles on it .... when HD found out about it they took it from him and gave him a new one in 2001 and now he has over 200,000 miles on it... plus he has 2 bourgman scooters and puts over 17,000 miles a year on EACH of them.... his "89 will be in the museum in Milwaukee when it opens..... the boy is now 74 or 75 yrs young and is still gettin' it !!!!!!!
Welcome to the Forum and also to the world of H-D. They truly are wonderful bikes and very comfortable on the road. I've logged 15 hour days in the saddle on my '05 E-G Classic with no trouble. They shake a little when idling, but once you're underway that goes away and it's SMOOOTH sailing on the interstate or those peaceful country roads!
I've had both too and prefer the Electra Glide Classic ... no going back. While to GW has more power, the EGC has plenty for me, the handling characteristics mean more to me than anything. Plus, I am far more comfortable doing the maintenance onHarleys over Hondas.
Zapps, welcome to the forum and maybe to the world of HD. I'm new myself, but have watched this forum alot. Got 11,000 on my Ultra and love it.Some real good advise hereand a little BS. Also good.
