Default T/Max Warranty

Hey Guys
Just so everyone knows ( there is no warranty on oxy sensors )
After educating myself on which EFI controller I should buy I went with the T/max and I have to say it was great for about 2 months, but about 2 weeks ago I noticed that the idle was a bit rougher than usual, so I hooked up the computor to check it out and found that the front oxy sensor was no longer sending info to the module ( I was fairly certain that it was the sensor after changing around the connections to assertain if it was the sensor or the module ).
I fired off an email to Zippers asking what information they needed from me to allow them to send a replacement sensor under warranty. I recieved an answer the following day telling me than there is not warranty on sensors. I replied back asking where it says that sensors are not covered under the stated 3 year warranty as stated per the T/max website, no quick and timely reply this time. As far as I can find the only place that it says that the sensors are not warranted is in the paperwork I recieved with the actual unit not on the website which states 3 year warranty. Now I am a bit disappointed about this and find that changing the actual warranty from before you purchase and then after you purchase a tid unethical if not illegal.
BAD BAD ZIPPERS. I have since paid out a further $110.00au for a new sensor and the scoot is going through is autotune procedure again and improving daily. But I do worry how long before another failure may occur.
Still waiting for Randy at Zippers to rely to my warranty enquiry ( OH WELL SUCH IS LIFE ) GlennsGlide

Glen,
Of course you will have problems with the sensor. They are made to run upright andwithyou being down under they are upside down..... lol Sorry had to do it!

I do not know if I agree with Zippers but if you bought an 02 at a parts store I do not believe it would be warrantied either. The 02's can be bought at any parts store. I believe they are the same as a VW type or something like that.
Good luck with the system..... This is actually the first post I have read where there was a failure with a sensor. They are a sturdy device and usually dont go bad.

On another note... is it true the toilet flushes counter clockwise down there?

lol enjoy the riding

Are you adding any octane booster in your gas? They say that will get a sensor.

Just curious- how long and how many miles before your autotune smoothed out the kinks ????

Hey Spike
Went to three different parts stores and could only buy a 1,2,3,4 wire sensor off the shelf, you are correct in regards to VW,s having the same sensor. The salesman at one parts store ( Repco Autoparts ) said he could get one in for me at $350.00 dollars so I spent some time on the net and found place in Canberra " 300KLMS away " who sent it over for a total of $110.00au ( I can live with that ).Answering some of the questions asked by your and other members.
a) The toilets down here work backwards to yours ( ours only hold about 10% of water as yours in the bowl so I don't know if they flush in the opposite direction or not.( although I'm lead to believe that our bath water does drain in the opposite direction to yours.
b) You might be right about the sensors running upside down and causing the problem, you would think the bloody Germans ( I think thats where Bosch come from ) would have soughted that out. LOL.
c) As far as how long it will take to auto tune again (about 2 to3 rides of 50 miles or so ) as I played it safe andcleared all learned settings and started from scratch, even afterone ride it had improved the idle problem.Going on a boys 4 day weekend starting 21stSept ( and yeh we also show out dates opposite to yours ) with some mates2 Harleys, 1Honda 1800 Wing, 1 Honda 750 cruiser and 1VW powered trike, the trip well end up about 2000- 3000klms ( and yes again we work in KLMS now since 1969 )LOL.
Nice to talk to you GlennsGlide

Hey Creep1 ( another interesting handle )
I could not see any thing about the faulty sensor which would indicate there was a problem, it just stopped working.Iput in a new sensor and straight away the module picked up the signal and all was fine

GlennsGlide, is it okay to run 97 octane? I though the bike manual recommends 93 octane, and I'm lucky here in Kansas if I can get 91 octane. Maybe someone can chime in here that knows, but wonder if you're running too high an octane fuel. May not hurt the bike, but not sure about the sensor. Might be like adding an octane booster here in the states.
