Default Did I make the wrong choice ?

About a month ago I sold my beloved 98 Fat Boy, and put my name on a 08 Street Glide in Vivid Black with abs. I should be arriving in October some time. Right after I order the bike at a demo ride (another dealer) I sat on a 2008 Street Glide and could'nt get over how hard the seat was. I also felt like I was sitting a lot higher. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a ride on a Street Glide the wait was over 3 hours long and I had a part to attend that afternoon. However, I did get to take out an ElectraGlide Classic 2008 and really liked it. I hope I didn't make the wrong choice. I mean early in the year I took out an 07 Street Glide and it was awesome. Loved the way it rode and handled. The seat felt good too. Can anyone tell me if the comfort factor on the Street Glide and Electa Glide Classic is a huge difference ?

There are plenty of other seat choices out there, Mustang, Sundowner, Corbin. There are tons of posts here about that topic. I think you will love it.

You can also send your stock seat to Allen at Mean City Cycles. He can add memory foam for comfort plus lower your riding position, move you forward/backward, etc. at much less cost than that of a new seat. Never ridden a Street Glide, but I'm sureyou'll be happy with it once you get it "customized" for you. Same with any bike. Enjoy!

Do yourself a favor and rent a Street Glide for a day or a weekend and put some miles on it before you take delivery. It won't take long to know for sure.

The thing to remember about motorcycles in general and Harleys in particular is that things work in opposites. If it looks or feels hard it will be soft and vice-versa. The street glide will always have a superior ride to the fatboy or any softail bike. The classic may seem a bit more comfortable because it has a regular suspension and the street glide rides an inch lower because of the low profile shocks which do shorten suspension travel .You will definitely like the bike. Your 98 is 2 engines old and can never compare to an air acjustable suspension.

Most riders seem to replace their stock seats sooner or later for something more comfortable anyhow. You can change the firmness, the height, the width, and even have a fully custom seat made.

As far as choosing between the SG and EG: as long as you like the SG styling better and 2-up ltouring isn't a priority for you, then it sounds like you made the right choice.

If 2-up riding passenger comfort and amenities do become a priority for you later, remember that you turn your SG into as much of an EG later as you want by just buying the parts; it will just cost you more than starting with an EG from the get go.

I went from a 99 FB to a 06 EGS and have never looked back. I to was not sure at first but once you get use to the difference in the stances of the bikes you will love the SG. I am still running the stock seat but will be doing something with it this winter. You made a GREAT choice!! Bryan

I went through the same process going from an FXR that I sat "in" to a Road Glide that I sit "on". Your seat probably won't change that aspect since you're going from a cruiser to a tourer, but that's just the nature of the beast. Once your hair turns silver and you start wearing tennis shoes that close with velcro you won't notice a thing.
