Default Daily commuting

Do any of you use your tourer as a daily driver?

I'm a big guy, 6'4"ish 330lbs. I'm told a guy my size should be looking at the touring chassis. I'm considering getting a road king, & removing the windshield & bags for daily riding. I was wondering if any of you are already doing it.

I have a 23 Road King and love it. You will probably need to upgrade both the seat and suspension for your size. Personally, I would keep the bags. No windshield on the 23. I added one and, for me, it made it nicer to ride.

For riding a bike dailly I want a tourpack for all the stuff I carry or errands I want to run. I started out with FLHR, and added tourpack, and then bought FLHTCU. In my part of the country we have cold mornings and nights, so I wanted a fairing. Not sure sure where you are.

More storage, more you will use it.

Why would you remove the windshield and bags for daily riding?

Yeah, the road king looks good with the bags.

You don't think a Road King is overkill for a daily driver?

I go every where on a full dresser. I have not had a cruiser in years, and ride so much more. I think about getting a cute bike, but then I can't carry anything,

I also use my bike for work, lunch pale, tools, hard hat, laptop, and try to keep a little room so I can run errands or get groceries on way home.

I’m retired, but I commuted regularly about 30 miles each way. First 24 miles was at 70 mph, final was at 60 and two lanes. Windshield is great at speeds over 50, especially longer interstate runs. I had a removable reckless fairing that I used for two winters in rain and sleet. In the end it was no better than my windscreen. The bags are nice, especially for work gear, rain gear, laptops, dress clothes, etc. I added a trunk for winter as I really liked being able to place my helmet locked on the bike and out of the weather.

Im a king of the road, road king, rider. I like to open road view and never cared for fairings even though I owned a few.you either are or you are not. It is a real personal thing and no other rider can tell you which is best.

Reach seat to move you back, but I’d get the seat first, then new handlebars that fit you before worrying about shocks. Your position is the first step to enjoyable commutes. Check into a backrest, but that depends a lot on you, your age, the distance you ride and your riding position.

im retired so I don’t commute, but I still ride 2-4 weeks minimum vacations to see this country, my friends and family, and because I still can.
