If lever is tight too shaft, and having problems finding nutral, it has nothing to do with the lever, or the tans, and its a problem with the clutch instead.

Could be that fluid that is being used in the primary is too thick or too high in the primary against the clutch, and causing striction problem that is not allowing the clutch to cleanly release.
Bike level (not leaning on jiffy stand), fill primary lube to here.

The next one, clutch/lever not adjusted correctly, or clutch problems itself.

The last one, is the clutch hub bearing, and as it started to wear out, instead of clutch hub running tram/true, the outer basket starts to front edge dip in and out as the clutch is rotating, and this cause problems with the push rod not being able to press the pressure plate out far enough constantly, to allow the discs to fully unlock from each other.

Quick check to see if its one of the above, put bike into first, put light pressure on the shifter pedal like your slightly trying to put trans into neutral with lever pulled in, then blip the throttle, and as the revs come back down, if trans slips into neutral without problems, then problems back at the clutch not fully releasing with the lever pulled all the way in.

I replaced it with a new aftermarket shift lever and lock-tighted everything and it's been rock solid since. No play and the thru-bolt is still tight as ever. No leaking either from the new seal...Happy with the results.

Only reason I ask about the later shift lever version is I've been chasing some neutral finding issues lately and seemingly all of the aftermarket fixes are for the later models with adapters and higher-mounting points on the shifter lever. The newer version is curved whereas the earlier Twin Cam versions are straight. Moreso curiuos if the splines and shifter lever shaft are the same size in the Twin Cam's as the newer M8's?

TIA - Matt
The length (shaft to rod connection) and position of the arm (clocking) are important not the bends..
Need more information.. Which bike? Miles.. May only need to adjust the clutch, adjust fluid level, lube the cable, or rebuild the clutch.

07 Electra Glide, 35,xxx miles, clutch is adjusted and new 5,000 miles ago, fluid is SE Harley stuff for primary case and is the right amount/level.

I really only have issues coming down from second. It wants to slip right into first or feels like it’s mid-shifting and not going into anything. Doesn’t always happen and can’t consistently figure out when/why it happens.

Downshifting into neutral is hard from second.. It can be done.. But.. If you are trying to get into first and it's not going, for sure, it can be a loose arm. Seen it more than once. The front shift lever hits the floorboard before the tranny gets full travel. Tightening everything up fixes the issue. Last one I saw was a loose arm on the shift lever side..

Why only second to first? All other gears don't have a specific neutral between them and the next lower gear. A loose arm and limited travel only drop the tranny into neutral..
