Default Tranny question

I have a 98 FLHTCUI and my bro-inlaw has an 03 FLHTCUI. He is getting his tranny swapped out for the 6 speed.
Will his tranny fit on my bike? Do they bolt up the same and have all the needed items to fit seamlessly?
I would love to put a newer tranny on mine if that will work.

Never done the swap...but looking at the application charts for the 6 speeds they appear to be the same.

i don't think they can be swapped but they make a 6 speed complete insert for your tranny, it's going in my 97 in the spring.you already have a 5 speed why take it all apart for the same resuls anyway?

Are the part numbers the same??? If you got to catalog and order an '03 tranny, will it also fit yours? That's where your answer will be.

I'm gonna be doing a big over haul during the cooler wetter months. My bike has ~74k on it and my bro in-laws only has about 15k on it. In my eyes that's nearly a brand new tranny. I haven't looked at the p/n yet but will do that. Just out of curiosity Joe. How much was the 6 speed? That is my other option. It really depends on the funds though.

if i take it to a local shop that i don't know anyone maybe $2200.00 to$2600.00 , depending what brand.i would opt to do it because my stock looking tranny is still there . the look is what i am going for, revtec and others have different cases.
