So I was just sitting inside the house taking a break when it dawned on me that the 12 volts that I supplied was to the actual ACR's, not the ECM, lol! I did read across the two wires from the ECM with my meter, but that was it. But yeah, the 12 volts was applied to the actual ACR's.
So, you did supply 12V to the ACRs? Did they make an audible sound?
No, nothing. I'm wondering if they may be stuck with carbon and burnt oil from the breathers. I just built bypasses for that. I ran a borscope through the plug holes and it looks kind of caked on top of the Pistons in there. That's what makes me wonder about the actual ACR's being stuck. I'm going to assume if they're stuck shut, there would be no actual click because nothing's moving. I just redid this whole top end 35,000 miles ago so it kind of pisses me off that I didn't do breather bypasses while I had the top end off.
OK..... Got it!! Evidently they were stuck a little bit. When I put voltage to them last time I only connected the leads for a few seconds and then remove them. This time I ran one wire to ground and the other one to the positive lead. After tapping the positive lead on the connector a half dozen times or so, the front ACR came loose and started responding. The back one, not so much. I tried tapping the positive lead but ended up sticking it onto the terminal steady and then tapping the actual ACR with my 3/8 Drive Extension until it cleared and started clicking as well. So evidently, they were stuck like I thought maybe so. So next time, I know how to either test them, or clear them. I'll find out if the bike starts easier in a couple weeks when I get this thing back together. Still waiting on parts . Thanks for all your help Fellers! I totally appreciate you guys!
How long since the bike ran last? Just wondering if you might need to repeat the "unsticking" procedure again before you button it up.
3 weeks tops...... But if after all this, if during start up, the engine quits spinning for that 1/2 of a second pause because of built up compression, I'll verify that the ARC's are still clicking, or not, and look at something else as the cause. But they were stuck shut right now for sure! I'm just SUPER glad that I did not have to pull them out of the heads. That wasn't really on my list of things to get this month, lol!
Just curious, did you ever verify that the ground wire to the ACR is normally open, but closes to complete the circuit when the starter button is pressed?
