Default key fob replacement 2016 glide

And I just thought of something else! Knew I would, this may become a habit

the key fob that comes with the bike has melted in a storage unit fire. If I buy a new one I understand it needs coding. Can this be done remote from the bike as this bike will take some time to be in the least bit mobile. If so what do I provide to identify the fob to the bike?

Is it the vin number, ECU code?

Thanks

The bike needs to be programmed to accept the fob. The fob contains a set of numbers that are sent to the bike. You can have only two fobs for any one bike, and the bike needs to be present for programming as it needs to be hooked up to the diagnostic connector.

When you buy a FOB, it will have a serial number tag with it. That serial number must be added to the TSSM (older bikes) or BCM (newer bikes) for it to work with the security system.

Each bike can have a max of two FOB serial numbers added to the security.

The FOB can be added/subtracted from the TSSM/BCM via the dealer's Digital Tech 2 computer... OR... if you have friend (or Indy shop) with one of the other diagnostic tools, like the TechnoResearch Centurion Pro or Twin Tech Twin Scan 4, they can do it for you...

Any shop shouldn't charge too much, it takes longer to hook up the tool than to change the FOB serial numbers....

Lost our key and fob while on vacation to Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach Harley sold me a fob and programmed it for about $75. I have an older bike, 2012.

Yall must have some sh1tty dealers then. I bought the retractable key fob from a dealer near me, picked it up on a busy saturday, the had me pull it right in, 10 minutes later it was programmed, charged me $0.00

$50 for the fob and $25 to program it. I was 11 hours from home and tired of entering that 5 digit pin every time we stopped somewhere. It was getting tiresome. I didn't think it was too bad.

The locksmith that picked my saddlebags and made me a couple keys charged me $75 bucks on a Saturday. I thought that was pretty reasonable too.

You shoulda bought two of them. Anybody who has only one FOB is playing with fire. And don't get me started on the Motor company policy of only giving you one FOB on a $35,000 dollar bike.

I have 2. The spare was at home. Brand new still. Now I have to get it programmed because they deleted both old fobs when programming the new one.
