Default 2006 Electra Glide

Hi, is a 2006 Electra Glide Ultra Classic under 20 000kms a good buy? And what would be a fair offer?

@BugsyBP I have moved this thread from the Welcome section to the Touring Models section as you will get better responses to your question in this section.
The Welcome section is more for introducing yourself & letting other forum members know what Harley Davidson you own.

Be sure you can do your own maintenance is a good idea.

Yeah, the welcome section is where some gather to say the same thing over and over...

All depends on price. For $10 it's a wise purchase. For $50,000 not so much.

Hey Bugsy,

I bought a 2006 Ultra when it was 3 years old. I've got 106,000+ miles on it now. It's been a good bike for me.

But when you buy anything this old you gotta do your homework. Does it run? How old is the gas? Tires? The early 2000's Twin Cams had that cam chain tensioner issue. Make sure it's looked at.

It can be a good deal for you, nothing like a big touring bike if your going to put on the miles in comfort.

Which model is important to know... It's condition, if it's ready to ride (doesn't need neglected maintenance to be caught up), and if it's had the spring cam tensioners upgraded all matter...

I do not know how Canadian Purchase prices compare to US prices, but for an Electra Glide Standard, in the US;

Black Book Powersports says average retail value is $4,490.

JD Powers says low retail $4,205 and high retail is $5,535.

With that mileage, and especially at that age, I would upgrade the spring cam tensioners ASAP, if not already addressed. Once the cam tensioners are properly updated, if that bike is in good condition with a proper maintenance history, it should give years of reliable service.

IMHO, if it has the cam tensioners updated, how they were updated would matter to me. The prices, and value, differ greatly between the various cam tensioner upgrade options. Anything from just new tensioner pads, 2 different ways to convert to hydraulic tensioners, or a switch to chain drive cams, will affect the value.

So in general terms, if the bike is in very good condition, ready to ride (good tire tread & date codes) recent maintenance to include brake fluid flush, has the cam tensioners updated, and it passed my inspection/test ride:

I might pay $5K to $5.5K.

If it needs the cam tensioners to be updated, but otherwise as above, I might offer $3,500 to $4,000.

If it needs work, cam tensioner upgrade, and if I wanted a project bike, I'd offer maybe $2,500.

The prices I would be willing to pay would change based on the model, but not substantially...

Good luck with your shopping...
