I just recently installed a set of v&h trual duals on my 05 RK. The sound is quite abit different. To be honest not sure what I think. It has a "muffled sound" now. Almost like the mufflers are under water. Low rpm sound is decent but the higher the revs, it sounds weird. Any suggestions. I am putting a fuelpak on soon, but I cant imagine that has anything to do with the sound. I run v&h ovals with the baffle drilled out on the inner side. It couldbe that imvery used to the old sound but a friend heard it and commented on the odd sound. To tell the truth it doesnt have that HARLEY sound.Any enlightenment??
My buddy has the same mufflers (ovals?)as the ones in your pic. Once the packing blew outta the mufflers, the sound changed for the better (louder). He had to remap the FI also after that happened too. I say wait...
Separate exhausts like True Duals will have a different sound. I never cared for it either - also, I didn't care for the drop in low end torque. I went back to stock after a couple months and sold them on Ebay.
Well the ovals have been on for quite some time. They have atleast 8000 miles on them. The only thing I changed was the header pipes. I guess I will let it go for awhile and see how it does. Took the baffles completely out last nite but that is TOO loud for my taste. I guess if I continue to not like it, I will switch to rinehardt slip ons.

I just completed the exact same install and rode it for the firt time last night. Although I have the classic slash cut V-& H's. I know exactly what you are saying. I think though my first impression is that I like it. All I did was a neighborhod run though. I will get out on the bike tonight for bike night and get a better idea. My first impression was a deeper note and I thought it was neat that you could actually hear the left pipe. One thing is for sure the factory exahust made alot of noise up near the motor and the duals make the motor area sound very quiet. Its not as high pitched but I think out the back it probably sounds better. All the bikes I've heard that I really like were trual dual bikes. I would give it some time and see if it starts to grow on you. When I went from stock to slip on's I actually hated it, but they grew on meto the point I loved them. I think this may be much the same. Anything different is usally queer at first, even if its better.

Interesting! And you had these V&H True Duals on your Goldwing?
Now you have me worried. I just bought the exact same setup for my '05 Road King Custom. Keep me posted on how yours settles - I will be doing my install next week. Do you think you need the fuelpak? I am kicking around the idea, but don't want to waste the cash if it is not needed.
