I'd check the inner electrical connections between the two before you install it.
JUST to make sure it's bad.
Going from one to the other should show a short or open in the circuits.(Im guessing a short)

Any signs of heat or burn damage or anything like that?
What plug is that from?
The plug in the picture plugs into back of ignition switch.

Of course local dealer didn't have one.
It is part #71572-06

They are on eBay used, they show still available from a dealer, but not online (maybe backordered), and there are even repop versions available on Amazon....

I would just have to take that ignition apart and check out the insides....

Not sure I could sleep until I did...

You just need some security torx bits... You know you want to...

In nay case, it would appear you found the issue, good luck on the repair...

I bought two new oem ones off ebay already since i have two bikes never no.
I don't have the torxs but I have left hand drill bits.
Both dealers near me do not have them in stock
And would have to order, No telling how long that would take.

Actually I just checked and I have one on my shelf.

Bought it a few years ago for my 07 that had some issues and thought it was that but it wasn't. Same exact part.
PM if you need it, we can figure out something.
