hennyk.... just one more thought... a HD uses high volume not higher pressure to lubricate... so if we are use to seeing good 'oil pressure' we panic as a HD does not require that high oil pressure...
That`s why they idle @ 1000 RPM. Anything under that and the stock oil pump will not supply sufficient oil/pressure and could cause damage.
If you tuning your bike with A/M stuff andsetting your idle below 1K for the Potato - Potato sound, you should upgrade your oil pump. IMHO...[8D]
If you are caught in hot weather and in traffic shut the bike down and let it cool off. It needs moving air to keep it cool. This is were syn oil comes in to play ithandles and dissipates heat better This is not only for the new bikes but any air cooled motor.
I dunno guys. I had the same problem so I decided to replace my stock oil pressure relief spring with a Baisley spring. At idle, cold I get 32PSI and when fully warmed up I get 18 PSI (at 1000RPM). At 2000RPM (warm) I get 35PSI, at 3000RPM (warm) I get 45PSI. This is measured via a mechanical oil pressure gauge (Jeerzees customs) and not through that idiot sensor that comes with the bike (2003 Ultra Classic). The engine is nice and quiet now and the performance has not changed from before going to the Baisley spring.
