Default RE: Oil Pressure

ORIGINAL: lagonia

I dunno guys. I had the same problem so I decided to replace my stock oil pressure relief spring with a Baisley spring. At idle, cold I get 32PSI and when fully warmed up I get 18 PSI (at 1000RPM). At 2000RPM (warm) I get 35PSI, at 3000RPM (warm) I get 45PSI. This is measured via a mechanical oil pressure gauge (Jeerzees customs) and not through that idiot sensor that comes with the bike (2003 Ultra Classic). The engine is nice and quiet now and the performance has not changed from before going to the Baisley spring.

I'm close to this. At idle (warm) I'm about 14-16psi, running at highway speed it's at 35-45psi. When engine does get hot, stop and go heavy trafffic, and I start feelin the heat on my legs, I can see the pressure start to fall at idle to 6-8psi. When I see that, happens rarely, the oil temp is usually getting up around 240-250*, otherwise bike runs around 210-220*.

Reading it off the rocker mounted oil pressure gauge I installed, temp is from dipstick, and yes, I have an oil cooler.

No complaints here though, bike runs awesome. Map is tweaked finally to where I want it and the King just purrs when cruising. Did order the IDS, should come tomorrow, probably will pull the wheels and install this weekend. Got some blackwalls to change out the wide whites as well. Wifey gonna gonna kill me when sees sees the size of this UPS box.

Don't know if this helps at all, just had to throw my $.02 in.

up to a point high volume is actually more preferable than high pressure.
Moving more oil faster removes more heat from the internal components
faster.
where as high pressure will tend to erode bearings faster (no not overnight or as such but still faster).
