I recently picked up a 96 FLHTCU that took a loooong nap. Its running great but I think this is a reverse lever...can anyone tell me how it works?

On mechanical reverse: bike in neutral, fully apply clutch, shift the reverse's level into reverse, and slowly release the clutch until you feel the bike moving backward. I never fully release the clutch for obvious reasons. I also give it minimum gas. Some mechanical reverse are "Equipped with an electronic kill switch to prevent transmission damage. If the reverse and the transmission are engaged in gear at the same time, the kill switch will stall the engine."

Ok, so does "shift reverse lever into reverse" mean that I pull back on that lever? Or pull it out? Doesn't seem to want to budge...

That lever doesn't pull up or push down and allow it to be moved when the bike is running, in neutral with the clutch pulled in does it?

Yeah...it's not budging

I guess I should stop being lazy and pull the cover to see what's going on

There is often a simple interlock to keep you from accidentally knocking it into reverse. Usually you have to pull the lever out about 1/4", then swing it back about an inch to engage the reverse gear.

But yes, pulling the cover will reveal much.
