Will be ordering 08 RG and want to know if anyone has had a problemwith the electric throttle. HAs this throttle been on any other HD before 08 and what happens when the electronic components fail while riding( Does it go to zero throttle?). Is there a start up diagnostic for this system?
zoom, zoom, zoom. J/K I wondered the same thing. I have an 07 Road Glide. I don't really like the idea of
electonic throttle just something else to go wrong. The is the first year HD has used them based on my limited knowledge.
Some has said throttle response is a bit delayed. Try doing a search on the topic. Good Luck.
Electronic, or "fly-by-wire" throttles have been used for decades and they are pretty bulletproof now. First thing you notice is there is no drag associated with pulling a cable through a tube. Second thing should be a better throttle response as the electric impulses are instant.
Drawback, if you want to change bars it is going to be interesting to find when&where you can get throttle control extentions or even if those will work.
It works fine. I have an 08 Ultra. There is a delay, and I (for some reason!) tend to bog the motor down from a start, seems to me that you have to rotate it farther then the old cable system from the stop. Other than that, I haven't had any issues, it did take me about 200 miles to get used to the start from a stop, but it works flawless, and I haven't really noticed much of a delay at all.
I have no delay on my 08 RG, I think the cruise control is spot on now. In the owners manual it list several modes the bike will go into if you have a problem. For myself I think it was a big improvement, no slop, perfect adjustment and cruise is dead on even thru the Adarondack Mts.
It does seem to have a little too much "slack" (if that is the right word for electronic trottle) from fully closed until it engages. Hopefully some info will come out about adjusting the slack out.
It has4 fail safe backup modes. The worsttwo would be forced shutdown or forcedidle (high idle only)mode. It has a limited performance (reduced power) and power management (about 25 MPH)mode as well.
I have had no problems with it. I like it. The grip returns to zero while the Cruise Control is on. Even when the bike accelerates the grip is stationary....
I dunno, heard that it can reverse polarity if it gets wet (idle=full throttleand full throttle=idle). So I hope you never get caught out in a rain storm....[:-]

Kinda scary....
That sounds like an Urban Legends myth on the Internet to me....
