I was at the local dealer yesterday night when thay were moving all the bikes back in, the stock exhaust sounded louder on the 07 and 08's. Did the MOCO changed there stock mufflers to be louder?
Yes, they did. Decibel levels are measured on entire bike noise, not just exhaust. They have done extensive work the last few years quieting down the motor, and have made the pipes more what we like to hear.
When I was visiting the shop the other day there was a beautiful cop-glide awaiting pickup from service. I was standing at the counter when it got fired up and rode out the overhead door. It was louder than all get out. I ask the guy what mufflers were on it and he said stock. I asked what they did to them and he said took a plasma cutter and gutted them. I can guarantee that officer won't be issuing any noise ordinance violations!
Speaking of stock mufflers. I have a '07 FLHX and removed the stock mufflers for V&H oval slipon's. The stock pipes sounded good. The V&H sound good as well, a little louder, not much. I did notice that I lost a little bottom end after removing the stock pipes. My bike seems a little slower all the way around as well. I am thinking of putting stocks back on to compare. I have stage 1 download and pc 111.
A buddy of mine put the HD street legal slip-ons on his 03 and they sound significantly louder then my 07 stockers? asked him witch ones and all he remembered was they were the least expensive one's? btw he went with the download and while bike runs great has some decal poping
Hey Fastbagger, if you do the swap back to see if you lost a little bottom end let us know. I too have the stage 1 setup, A/F, download and would be interested in what you have to say.
