Default One more time on cams

99 rk tc 88 1 up no speeding just cruising. So as I've been researching different cam companies I've noticed the cams come with a splined end for the gear mine. has a Woodruff key that being said the gear needs to be purchased. so it has the splined hole not like the original slotted gear correct also I been looking at andrews 26H or the s&s 525 any second opinion is welcomed

Back in the day, the Andrews 21 cams were the go to drop-in cams for an 88" engine. Many happy people with these cams in their 88" engines....

Then Andrews came out with the 26 cams, which were good in the 88", but per Andrews, are better in the 95" big bore kits.

FWIW.... If I had a Stage I (air cleaner & exhaust) 88" engine and just wanted to drop in a cam, I'd use the 21. If I had an original 88" but was going to install a 95" big bore, I'd use the 26.

As always, the tune can make or break a cams performance...

Just be careful as the early TC engine (99 - 04) have a fair amount of variation in them that limits what you can fit for a camshaft. There were issues with the Valve seals clearances in the heads and issues with clearance in the camchest area. If this is going to be for your daughter to own and ride with no other modifications planed then I would stick with the Andrews 21 cam.
