Cool Suspension rabbit hole

I find myself going down the suspension rabbit hole. Not sure what would be the best for me. I have a 2016 cvo street glide and finally think it’s time to replace the suspension. I ride solo 99% of the time but occasionally the wife hops on the back, she rides her own. I have a tour pack but that is only on for long weekends or honestly random times for no reason.

I know people that have legends, progressive, and ohlins and each swear by what they have. Also have a friend that has full air ride. I like the idea of the air ride cause I can adjust on the fly for when my wife is on back or I am loaded for long weekends. The thing that has me concerned about full air is a line breaking or the compressor dying hundreds of miles away from home. I know it’s a personal preference but it has a lot of money to spend and not be happy. I do not like the look of the remote reservoir shocks.

You do not have to show the reservoirs. I hate the look too, and I have the Ohlins HD044 with the reservoirs hidden between the bags and the frame. I have the Ohlins NiX cartridges up front

I've run cheap Progressives and top of the line Ohlins remote reservoirs on my Street Glide.

If I were doing it again, I'd go with Fox or RWD as said above.

What I wouldn't do is waste money on Legends. In all my years it's the suspension I see the most complaints about (leaking seals, random parts breaking, etc).

Legends are definitely overhyped and overpriced.

A few years ago I replaced the stock shocks on my 2015 Ultra Limited with a pair of shocks by Super Shox (made in Grays Lake, IL). It was a great move and one that I should have made 10 years ago when my cycle was new.

There are a lot of different manufacturers out there making good shocks but since Super Shox is located about 16 miles from my home and was recommended by my HD senior tech I though I'd give them a call. The owner took the time to explain which pair would work best for me and invited me to take a look at their manufacturing facility.

I was impressed to say the least and was assured that IF I wasn't happy with them I could bring them back......Bought them, installed them and adjusted them. 3 years later I couldn't be happier.....just my opinion.

What ive learned about suspension, find someone that can work on the stuff and set you up with the right spring for the load, not just a seller to purchase from. Most high end shocks have preload and rebound adjustments and the top ones have compression valves too so, its all in how it gets set up, doesnt matter the color.

I've tried Legends and have Ohlins on one bike now, but my other bike has Pro-Action and the 3 bikes prior did also.

Superior product made in the USA by two guys that have been in racing and suspension for a long time.

I never adjust mine on any bike for passenger, etc. They have it pretty much figured out.

Call George or DJ and talk with them .

Best of luck

Good advice for a solo rider. Pro Action uses fox internals in their shocks as well. I currently have Legends Revo A on both my bikes, they are good shocks as well. Any reputable after market rear shock will be an upgrade from the Orem shocks on your 2016 street glide.
